weather or not

Oof, it's been a challenging winter to be working outside at the ranch! As you all have experienced, the extreme cold weather we've had this winter has been tough to take. I never thought I'd be working outside in -11 degree weather, but that's what I did this past Sunday while helping out with the morning feeding. The first thing I did when I got there, aside from taking a big swig of hot coffee, was get the feed vehicle started (ugh) and throw hay to the horses.

To my relief, all the horses and donkeys were on their feet and doing well. I have to admit, I spent part of the previous night laying awake in bed worrying about them. I think that's an occupational hazard of working at the ranch and loving the animals. Luckily, the sun was out and the wind was minimal. I've really become good at bundling up for the cold weather, but it's still hard to work with bulky gloves on, so I end up with cold hands no matter what.

But all the hassle is worth it when the horses are fed and dozing in the sun. I don't think there's anything else that would get me out in this weather, but taking care of them makes me happy. I have to say, though...I can't wait for spring!!
