 Francis & Gibbs, donkey hugging! I've been so busy at the barn that I haven't had time to blog, so it's time to catch up. A lot has been going on, with animals coming and going. These two cuties, Francis and Gibbs, were adopted to a donkey trainer and have gone to a good life in Eastern Montana. Terri, who is one of our volunteers that helps to socialize the wild donkeys, got this photo of them in the trailer. It is so sweet! Francis closed his eyes and he looks like he's smiling! It's great when the animals find a home with someone who will care for them properly. I feel sad to not be seeing them anymore, but this is what the program is all about. We've had several new arrivals, some of whom you've seen on our home page and Facebook page. The mini-horse Pegasus and her dwarf-mini buddy Abigail are doing well. Abigail still has issues with her overgrown hooves but Debora is continuing to work on her. She did have to have surgery on one of her ears to heal a hematoma that was swollen and infected, but she is healing nicely. Any donations to help with her vet bill would be much appreciated. Wilson, who came in the same day as the minis is slowly gaining weight and health as we continue to monitor him. Just in the last few weeks we've also taken in three other horses and a donkey, so there's been a lot of activity.
Unfortunately, we also lost two horses around the end of August. Snap, who was only with us a few weeks, had a fatal heart condition. Hoback, who came in at the end of May, had an intestinal ulcer that caused him to bleed internally. Both horses were sweet and gentle and I'll miss them. I feel good that they had excellent care and a good quality of life here at Wings.
