i love this work

Really, how lucky am I? I get to come to Wings and see these wonderful faces. I get to walk into the pens and touch these beautiful animals. For me, it doesn't get any better than this. Seven months ago, I didn't know a thing about being around a horse or taking care of a horse. Now I know the basics of horse handling, grooming, feeding, and horse psychology. And there's so much more to know! Sure, the work is sometimes physically demanding, and I come home smelling like a horse, but I've never been a glam girl. I've always been more of a tomboy who likes to play in the dirt.

Just...wow!

The people are the other special element at Wings. Everyone is devoted to the well-being of these animals. I ask a ton of questions because I want to learn and do the best job I can for the horses and donkeys, and everyone at Wings is patient with me, sometimes explaining things more than once so I make sure I've got it down. And they are very appreciative of the help. We had a wonderful, yummy volunteer "thank you" dinner last weekend and it was great to see so many people who I don't get to visit with much when we're working.

I love walking around the facility, doing my chores, looking up at the beautiful Montana sky, looking out at the incredible mountain view, hearing the horses call to each other...it's a dream come true for me.
