Now that it seems the coldest weather is finally behind us, we're preparing for Spring at the ranch. Spring means putting out hoses, cleaning up hay and debris that's blown around the ranch, and dressing up our minis for Easter. :-) This is Nell, our mini Appaloosa, in her Easter Bunny costume. As a fundraiser, we're offering costumed minis for birthday party and event photo opportunities. We can also dress up a cowboy, dragon, fairy, angel and unicorn mini. We had some photo ops at a few events last year and the kids loved it. Check our Events page for details on how to book a mini party. It was a busy winter keeping the horses fed and watered throughout the cold snaps, and it's a bit of a relief to be able to shed some layers. We had several stalwart volunteers who stuck with us through the winter and we are so grateful for their help. It's really fun to bring in volunteers and watch them get so much enjoyment from the horses, no matter what chores they are doing. All the horses and donkeys made it through the winter with no major problems, and with the warmer weather the mares are getting frisky. We're turning out some horses onto the pasture before the rich grass starts growing so they get a chance to frolic. The horses that are insulin resistant or have other metabolic problems can't be on summer pasture so this gives them a chance to run around with the pasture herd. If you'd like a chance to be around horses, check out our Volunteer page and fill out an application. We always need help around the ranch and you'll get to meet some real characters!
