Celtic Fun & games

I didn't get a chance to post last week because we were busy getting ready for our booth at the Bitterroot Celtic Games, which took place on August 21 & 22. It was so much fun! We took Nikki, four mini-horses and Brighty the mini-donkey to the games to help promote interest in the Wings Sanctuary. The animals were set up in a pen next to the Wings booth so people had a chance to feed and pet them. It was so great to watch people's faces light up when they saw the horses.

It was especially fun to watch the kids, who were simply enchanted, especially with the mini-horses. In many cases the horses were taller than the kids, but most of them were pretty brave and would approach the horses with treats in their hands, and we would show them how to hold their hand flat and let the horse (or donkey) eat off their hand. Some kids and even adults also had fun brushing the animals and just petting their soft noses.

Every now and then we'd walk one of the minis around the festival and let people pet them, and I'd have to say that the adults were just as enchanted as the kids! :-)  You could just see the young horse lover come out in them. Then we got the chance to tell them about our booth, the sanctuary info, t-shirts for sale, silent auction items, and the bags of treats they could buy and feed to the horses.

It was a great chance to get exposure for the sanctuary, and a lot of staff and volunteers worked hard to make it happen.
