 Three previous rescues, Sissy, Mama and Baby. I call them the Three Amigos. Saturday was a busy day at the barn as three new rescues came in. You can read more about them on the home page and on our Facebook page. I was there to muck and feed so I had a chance to run around taking pictures of the new guys so I could put them on the site. It's always heartbreaking to see a neglected animal, but the good news is that they have basically landed in Horse Heaven. I can't imagine anyone who could take better care of them than Debora and her staff. It seems that a lot of horses hooves are really neglected so with her experience, Debora is able to help them immediately. She also has a lot of helpers and friends who contribute their talents to caring for the rescues.  Here's just one aspect of this excellent care - the herb cabinet. There are a wide variety of herbs that Debora uses to supplement the animals' feed, from joint care to eye blends to digestive aids. Debora takes into account the type of hay being fed, where it was grown and the mineral and sugar content of the hay, as well as the metabolic needs of each individual animal. The same care is taken with any other supplemental feed. It's fascinating to learn about it!
